Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is becoming a very popular part of many men and women’s self-care and wellness routines because of its detoxification and esthetic benefits.
MLD is a specialized massage technique that gently assists the lymphatic system. Your muscles are not the focus during this type of massage. Light rhythmic movements stimulate the lymphatic system without compressing the vessels – allowing lymph to move more easily through the tissues and lymph nodes. Lymph is a mixture of mostly water, proteins, immune system components and waste products. Lymph nodes, which filter out the waste, are found throughout the body. The lymph returns to the circulatory system where your kidneys or liver remove any waste for our body to pass through bowel movements or urine.
Indications for a MLD massage: pain relief, digestive problems, hormonal imbalances, cellulite, seasonal allergies, jet lag, detoxification, water retention, facial rejuvenation, and esthetic purposes. It is also most recently gaining popularity for being an essential part of post cosmetic surgery care in order to achieve your desired results and avoid complications such as seromas.
